Listening

The test format is the same for Academic and General Training.

The listening section is divided into 4 parts

  • The four listening items are:
  1. There will be a conversation between two individuals in an everyday social context so make sure you listen carefully and find the right answers.
  2. There will be a monologue or a speech where one person will talk about one particular subject so you need to attentively listen to what is being said to find the right answer.
  3. The candidate will listen to a conversation between two or among four people in an academic setting and you need to again pay attention and find correct answers.
  4. There will be again a monologue on an academic subject and again you must listen carefully to everything so that you will find the correct answer easily.
  • These 4 tasks will include a total of 40 questions designed to test your ability as in how good you are at listening to a conversation and a  monologue and further you can understand and retain the information to find the correct answer.
  • Each recording is played only once so be alert, careful, and agile to establish a quickly correct answer.
  • You have only 40 minutes time for this listening task
  • Listening section band score scales from 0 to 9 so practices regularly to score band 9 in the listening section.

Speaking

  • The Speaking test format is always the same for Academic and General Training.
  • This speaking task has a total time duration of around 11-14 minutes
  • The test is all about the face-to-face discussion with an examiner who is entrusted with the task to assess your flawless English speaking abilities. Examiner will also record your voice for further proper evaluation in order to give you the right score whatever you deserve based on your speaking abilities.
Speaking part has 3 sections which are explained below:
Part 1:
  • Examiner asks some personal questions about the candidate like home, family, work, studies, and interests
  • This session will give the candidate to speak only for about four to five minutes
Part 2:
  • In part 2, the examiner will provide a card to a candidate and there will be some photo or info about something so the candidate will be given a minute to prepare his speech.
  • The candidate will now be asked to talk on the topic mentioned on the task card for about a two-minute to judge how well a candidate can describe a particular thing off the cuff.
Part 3:
  • Examiner will be more curious and will add some more questions based on the response given by the candidate in the second part
  • The candidate will be pushed to express more and describe and discuss more abstract ideas and issues so that examiner can assess the candidate’s overall speaking skills. The time limit will be about 4-5 minutes for candidates to speak for this part.
  • IELTS Speaking section band score scales from 0 to 9 so do speaking practice regularly to score band 9 in the speaking section.
